Rising water and sewer rates can make water unaffordable for low-income households, leading to shut-offs and other negative consequences. New Jersey Future, in partnership with Jersey Water Works and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), is working to understand the impact of water affordability on individuals and families. Their goal is to build public support for water assistance programs in New Jersey, which includes advocating for policy changes to develop affordability initiatives. This session will begin with an overview of current research and data. Following that, we will have a “listen and learn” portion where community members and advocates are invited to share the challenges they face regarding water and sewer bills. Additionally, we will provide information on advocacy resources and updates on ongoing actions to advance these issues.
